Stewarding the Environment
Developments should serve both people and planet.
Automated parking is one element that accomplishes both.
Increase
Green Space
By increasing parking density by up to 50%, automated parking opens opportunities to incorporate additional green space into developments. Green space boasts myriad benefits, from promoting healthy living and wellbeing to increasing profitability and economic activity. Some of the environmental and social benefits include:
Reduced Heat Island Effect
Improved Stormwater Management
Increased Carbon Storage

Improved Climate Resilience
Improved Air Quality
Improved Ecosystem Services
Reduce
Emissions
By eliminating the need for vehicles to drive up ramps and through aisles looking for a parking space, automated parking drastically reduces the vehicle-borne emissions common to a conventional parking garage. For example, a 1,442 space automated parking garage has the following benefits:
1. Annual savings of 19,828 gallons of gasoline
2. Annual toxic emissions eliminated include:
a. 2,885 lbs of Hydrocarbons (HC)
b. 1,486 lbs of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)
c. 11.15 tons of Carbon Monoxide (CO)
d. 198 tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Use
Renewable Energy
Renewable energy technology has advanced considerably over the last decade, and rooftop solar installations are one of the renewable energy generation strategies used on IEG's robotic parking facilities.
Automated parking is an ideal application for solar energy installations.
This helps offset various environmental impacts from grid-based energy generation and reduces utility costs. Plus, on-site electricity generation directly supports the global transition to an electrified mobility infrastructure.
Achieve
LEED and Parksmart Certification
More and more developers are seeking improved environmental performance for their buildings and look to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the standards to certify their projects. LEED is a nationally recognized benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance buildings, and Parksmart is USGBC's certification system designed to advance sustainable mobility through smarter parking structure design and operation.
Automated parking contributes up to 17 points towards LEED certification and also perform well against the Parksmart certification standard.
